We created Blameless Children's Charity to bring hope & joy to families affected by addiction
Blameless
History
Established in 2011, Blameless began its journey as a small community initiative based at Hamilton Academical Football Club, dedicated to supporting children and families affected by a loved one’s addiction.
How We Help?
Eden Family Retreats
Our Eden Retreats offer a peaceful escape for families navigating the challenges of addiction. Nestled in the tranquil Eden Leisure Village, these breaks give parents and children the chance to spend meaningful time together, away from daily stresses and routines. Over a weekend or short stay, families enjoy activities like mini Highland games, nature walks, campfires, crafts, and team-building exercises designed to rebuild trust, communication, and joy.
“We arrived feeling like strangers… we left feeling like a family again.”
Free Community Events
Blameless hosts a variety of fun, free events throughout the year to help families affected by addiction experience joy, inclusion, and positive memories. These events include summer fun days, outdoor games, fireworks nights, and our magical Christmas pantomime — all held at our home base at Hamilton Academical FC Stadium or community venues.
“It was the first time we had fun as a family without worrying about anything. Just for one day, we felt normal.”
Emotional Support & Guidance
We know that the emotional toll of addiction affects the whole family — especially children who often feel forgotten or blamed. At Blameless, we provide a judgement-free, compassionate environment where families can find emotional support and connect with others who understand their experience. Whether it’s a kind word from a volunteer, a quiet chat during an event, or a helpful referral to a support organisation, we’re always here to listen.
“For once, I didn’t have to explain what we were going through. They just understood.”
Raising Awareness
At Blameless, we believe prevention starts with understanding. That’s why we regularly visit schools, community groups, and youth programmes to raise awareness of how addiction affects families — especially children. These sessions help remove the stigma often attached to addiction and encourage open conversations about mental health, coping mechanisms, and resilience.
“After hearing your talk, I realised I wasn’t the only one. I finally spoke to someone at school.”
